I'm Sarsel, also known as Kristy (my real name). I'm 18, female from western Canada. The story I submitted is called Night Thoughts and features Xena/Ares and X/m pairings. How long have you been watching Xena/Hercules/Young Hercules? I've started watching Xena around second season I think, but only occasionally. I didn't really start following it until third season and I only began enjoying the Internet Xenaverse at the beginning of the fifth. What got you into the show(s)? At first it was an interesting plot. The first episode I really remember seeing was Gabrielle's Hope and the setting of Britannia, and then Greece was so distinct. After that I really began to enjoy Xena's character (especially during the Sin Trade shows) and when I first saw the Bitter Suite I completely fell in love with Ares. How did you discover fan fiction? I'd been writing Gone with the Wind fanfic for a couple years by the time I'd discovered Xena. When I joined the Xena and Ares Shipper club and the Ares and Xena Romantic Society, the first messages sent to me were "Do you write fanfic?" I'd been reading a lot of shipper stories by that time and decided to give it a go. What did you get out of fan fiction that you didn't get out of the show(s)? [if anything] Fanfic allows you to go into detail of the characters and their relationships. The show can't read my mind and TPTB won't be able to satisfy everyone so that's why we're all here. Why did you decide to start writing fan fiction? Inspiration and pressure from the notorious three. :) Some crazy girls from the club who will hound you constantly to get you writing. But it was mostly because I just couldn't stop myself from writing. What characters do you enjoy writing about? Xena is my basic favourite. I also love Autolycus and Meg and want to use them a lot more often than I have been. Ares in interesting to write because you usually have a choice whether to make him bad, good or a justifiable middle ground. Caesar and Pompeia (his wife) have also been on my mind lately. Above all, I love my own version of Livia. She has almost nothing in common with the character we see on the show, as I've altered her past, but I just think she's fabulous. I'm playing her in an RPG right now. Do you include sexual content in your stories? What pairing(s)? Why? If you don't, why not? About half of my stories include graphic sexual content because it's so much fun and .......um..... exciting Do you use beta readers? Why or why not? A lot of the time when my muse Lasca is online, I write my stories in the chat room then save the file, and edit her comments out later. I usually can get about 10 paragraphs written like that. It's really great. She tells me what works and what doesn't right away. Her enthusiasm can get me thinking of what happens next a lot faster. Who are the fan fiction authors that influenced you most, or made the greatest impression on you? Skkye Blue, Something Royal, Power Chakram and Lasca are my favourite authors. They all have greater grasps of their characters then most others. Skkye has incredible creativity with plot and erotic scenes, SR is superior in weaving emotions and her original characters into the story. Power Chakram is just the best and Lasca has a dirty mind. Is historical accuracy important to you? Why or why not? I'll try to be as historically accurate as I can be, especially in my stories dealing with Romans (you would not believe the research I'm doing on Roman armor to figure out how to take it off) But, when I have to, I'm willing to throw it out the window. (accuracy, not the armor. I might hit someone and give them a concussion) Do you write for any other fandoms? I've been writing Gone with the Wind fan fiction for about 4 or 5 years now. I'm also co-authoring a Xenaverse/Buffy crossover featuring the show's version of Julius Caesar. I've also rediscovered Star Trek: TNG fandom online and I'm toying with R/T or T/Dr.C pairings. Do you write Uber fiction? Why or why not? Well, I'm thinking about it. I've read a couple that have been pretty inspiring so maybe.......
All right. That's everything. :) Thanks
Warrior Judge submitted two new stories: Infidelity, a story that asks the question, 'What would have happened if Perdicus hadn't been killed?' Her other story, Conversion, is an Uber with Xena and Gabrielle as nuns in 18th century Germany. How long have you been watching Xena/Hercules/Young Hercules? 2 years or so. What got you into the show(s)? I saw 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun' and liked the scene where Gabrielle bites Xena's neck....I have been watching ever since. How did you discover fan fiction? A friend told me about it. What did you get out of fan fiction that you didn't get out of the show(s)? [if anything]
1.Gabby and Xena having sex with one another. Why did you decide to start writing fan fiction? I was inspired by another writer. What characters do you enjoy writing about? Xena and Gabrielle. What do you find compelling about them? They love each other and they look great. They have intriguing characters. Do you include sexual content in your stories? What pairing(s)? Why? If you don't, why not? Yup! Xena and Gabrielle! Because I like them and I think they'll be hot together. Do you enjoy reading stories with sexual content? Why or why not? Yup! As for why...well, as a lesbian I don't get to read or see on t.v. women having sex with each other, so when I come across sex scenes between women I like reading it. Do you use beta readers? Why or why not? Yes I do, because English ain't my mama's tongue. Who are the fan fiction authors that influenced you most, or made the greatest impression on you? C.J WALLS, & DARKANGEL. Is historical accuracy important to you? Why or why not? Yes. I don't know why...I guess because it makes the story more believable. Do you write for any other fandoms? Nope. Do you write Uber fiction? Why or why not? So far I wrote 1. I'm working on a new one at the moment. I used Gabrielle & Xena's names, though. I just thought that making them nuns would be interesting. Milou submitted one new story, Please Forgive Me, a story that pairs up Ares and Gabrielle. Milou is a French Canadian, and her first language isn't English.
How long have you been watching Xena/Hercules/Young Hercules? 4 years for Xena. Hercules occasionally for 2 years. Young Hercules sometimes for 2 months. What got you into the show(s)? When I saw a woman fighting and being the main character of a series, and after I discovered that the show was like Hercules's stories and mythologies (of which I'm a huge fan), I got addicted. How did you discover fan fiction? It was a new world for me (I speak french) so I decided to check it out. What did you get out of fan fiction that you didn't get out of the show(s)? [if anything] Pairing Gabrielle. She is so wonderful and she deserves to be loved. Why did you decide to start writing fan fiction? To see if my writing skills existed in English too. I guess they do. What characters do you enjoy writing about? Gabrielle!!!! And Beth (my own). What do you find compelling about them? Gabrielle?? She is perfect, wonderful, sexy etc.... All that I would like to be... Do you include sexual content in your stories? What pairing(s)? Why? If you don't, why not? Because my English is not that evolved yet. When I get better I'll give it a try. Do you enjoy reading stories with sexual content? Why or why not? I have nothing against it. I like reading, that's all. Do you use beta readers? Why or why not?
What's that? Who are the fan fiction authors that influenced you most, or made the greatest impression on you? Well, there are a lot of great authors on the Net, but the first story I ever read was by Chelsea and I decided to try myself... Is historical accuracy important to you? Why or why not? Yes, the past made us the way we are right now. It's a great treasure that we have. Do you write for any other fandoms? No, I write any kind of stuff for myself, but fanfiction only about Xena. Do you write Uber fiction? Why or why not?
What's Uber? (I look like I'm stupid, but hey, I speak french!! ;0p) Any comments, questions, suggestions? Thanks everyone for reading my stories and for posting it. If anyone wants some in french or non Xena related just come to my website. I'll be adding some of my stuff soon. www.milousecretgarden.homestead.com Noa submitted two new stories, Rejoined and The Gift, the former a Hercules/Iolaus story, and the latter an Ares/Gabrielle (with some other pairings). How long have you been watching Xena/Hercules/Young Hercules? Since the summer of 1999. I started watching Herc season four and Xena season three, and gradually, made up previous seasons. I don't really watch YH, except for a couple of eps. What got you into the show(s)? The relationships. For me, it's about love that two people have for each other, love that transcends life and death. I'm not into the action part. In fact, I really despise violence of any kind. How did you discover fan fiction? Surfing around the Net... What did you get out of fan fiction that you didn't get out of the show(s)? [if anything] Subtext as maintext. I want to read about those people consummating their love, as well as being occasionally naughty... Why did you decide to start writing fan fiction? At the time I thought there weren't enough Herc-Iolaus stories. Boy was I wrong... What characters do you enjoy writing about? Well, I really relate to Iolaus, so I write primarily for him. I usually pair him with Herc, but occasionally, as I said, I like to see him get a bit naughty.... I also write for Gabrielle, as, in the past, I related to that character as well. What do you find compelling about them? Their humanity. Iolaus, for example. He's a regular human being (unlike his *perfect* partner), and yeah, he's fallible, and whimsical, and makes all kinds of mistakes, but that is exactly what makes him so endearing... Do you include sexual content in your stories? What pairing(s)? Why? If you don't, why not? Oh yes, as much as I can. And I don't read any stories without sex. I usually pair Herc with Iolaus, but as I said, there's nothing wrong with a little experimentation. Do you enjoy reading stories with sexual content? Why or why not? Oh, yes! It amuses me, esp when it's written so good I'm getting a mental picture ;) Seriously, they just add to what TPTB are too chicken to tell us. Do you use beta readers? Why or why not? Yes. They tend to spot spelling mistakes I've missed. Who are the fan fiction authors that influenced you most, or made the greatest impression on you? atara, no doubt about that. Esp Idylls of the Conqueror. Her language is very rich, and she has such a vivid imagination! Is historical accuracy important to you? Why or why not? Not very much, but I do spot mistakes when they're made. Do you write for any other fandoms? No. Do you write Uber fiction? Why or why not? Tried once, didn't work out. Any comments, questions, suggestions?
Just that I love the site, especially the "by pairing" part. Makes it easier to
find what I'm looking for.
MB has 9 new stories up on the archive, A Hero's Reward, The Prisoner in the Room, Mortal Love, Practice Makes Perfect, The Dungeon, A Taste of Punishment, Just Like Old Times, If Wishes Were Horses and Fruit of the Vine, most of them involving unusual pairings (see the New Pairings page). Warning: Many of these stories contain sexual violence - Please read the warnings How long have you been watching Xena/Hercules/Young Hercules? For a little over a year. I came late! What got you into the show(s)? Fanfic How did you discover fan fiction? I discovered fan fiction in another fandom, and a favored author had written a story in the Herc/Xenaverse. At the time I'd never seen the show, and I had to get on the Internet to even see what the characters looked like. What did you get out of fan fiction that you didn't get out of the show(s)? [if anything] Well, smut for one thing! Also, there's a lot of very intelligent fanfic out there, and writers who are taking the characters in some very creative directions - Alternate Universes, Ubers, and the like. Why did you decide to start writing fan fiction? I'm not sure. I think one day I just realized that I had a story to tell. What characters do you enjoy writing about? Well, I've written a lot of different characters, although most of the things I've actually posted are about Joxer and Jett, with a little Ares, Discord and Strife tossed in here and there. I really enjoy writing about the gods (I'm more into myth than show canon on that score) and minor characters like Jett or Iphicles, maybe because there's just so much we don't know about them. It doesn't seem quite so sacrilegious! What do you find compelling about them? I'm really not sure! Do you include sexual content in your stories? What pairing(s)? Why? If you don't, why not? I do include it. I have a soft spot for true love and I tend to be a one true pairing kind of person. But if I write something in a different 'universe' those pairings can change. Do you enjoy reading stories with sexual content? Why or why not? I do enjoy them, but I'm not sure I can explain why! Do you use beta readers? Why or why not? I do. I didn't use a beta for my first few stories, but I became close to some really good writers who now beta for me. We're a small group who all beta each other's stories and I feel really lucky to have the benefit of their talent and experience. Who are the fan fiction authors that influenced you most, or made the greatest impression on you? Rose (Love Potion #9 - which is no longer posted on the Net) is incredible - it was her story that got me into the Herc/Xenaverse. There are so many other really great writers in this fandom it's hard to pin them all down! I'd be here all day!! But Rose definitely has a place in my heart. Is historical accuracy important to you? Why or why not? A lot depends on the story, but usually yes it is. Of course, the show canon played fast and loose with history, as well as having a lot of modern 'inside jokes', so that gives writers a good bit of leeway. Do you write for any other fandoms? No. Do you write Uber fiction? Why or why not? I haven't posted any, but I'm currently co-writing an Uber set during WWII. It's a lot of fun, but the research is exhausting! (Although, it might not technically be an Uber - I'm not totally sure of the definition of Uber....)
