HAPPY HOLIDAYS Hey all! I've been running around like a nut, as I'm sure most of you have too (I'm at work now and shouldn't even be writing this). Just wanted to post a quick shout, and say 'Happy Holidays' to everyone. Hope that you are all well. I will be trying - 'trying' being the key word here - to have an update done before the New Year. After that I will be 'trying' to finish the fanzine in time for the Pasadena Convention at the end of January so that I can sell them in person (with no shipping cost added). If that does work out, I'll post info on how to identify me (and maybe put a picture up - ack!). Although, judging by the amount of people going, odds of 'spotting the loony' won't be that great. I'll only be able to bring so many as well. Either way, you'll be able to buy them off the site either in late January or early February. Wish me luck *g* Take care!
NEWS: SURVEY RESULTS Thamiris has posted the results of her fanfic likes and dislikes survey on her site. However, she is still accepting surveys, so if you haven't managed to answer the questionnaire, you still can. She will update the results periodically. UPDATED SITES de Bonheur's X:WP Alt. FanFic & Etudes Page has been re-vamped, and now includes de Bonheur's artwork.
NEWS: As reported on Shadowfen's, Sharon Bowers' site is now down. You can find out why from Sharon. I've added a few new links on the links page. THE CLINIC Klancy7’s story The Clinic is going to be included in an anthology of short stories Justice House Publishing is putting out next year. It will be a desmutted version, mind you, called Tristaine. Will tell more about the anthology when I get more news.
NEWS: SEXUAL VIOLENCE Due to a recent complaint from someone who found a story without a suitable sexual violence warning I feel compelled to do two things: First, state unequivocally that this site's policy is to not discriminate against sexual violence in stories, in keeping with this site's policy of inclusivity. However, it is also policy for such stories to be labelled with warnings/disclaimers so that people can avoid such content if they wish to do so. Unfortunately, as I am only human, and have been building this site up for over a year now - with constant changes happening along the way - some mistakes and continuity problems are inevitable. Most stories are, I believe, suitably labelled in the archive, but I do plan on giving the site a much needed overhaul after the completion of the fanzine. In addition, I have added a mention of possible sexual violence in stories on the warning page as suggested by the person who complained. Nevertheless, it was already stated on the warning page, "the site contains content and materials of a nature which are inappropriate for children and may be offensive to some adults. Please use this site responsibly." I assume that everyone using the site is an adult that can make their own choices. The warning explicitly states that you might find "offensive material," and ultimately all warnings/disclaimers on stories are arbitrary. In other words, the warning also means that you are responsible for what you read. If you find this offensive, I suggest that you not use the site. I should also mention that the only subject matter that I refuse to post on the site is content that puts children in sexual situations. I will also be updating the submission guidelines accordingly (although, thankfully I have yet to receive a pedophilic story).
NEWS: A few links added, including links to independent publishing companies that print UberXena, er... I mean original fiction (man, that was close), in the Xena Related Fiction area. Support the bards! And... XINE UPDATE Okay, here's the deal about the fanzine. I am almost ready to show the stories to the panel members (ducking out of the way of rotten fruit). I know that I'm terribly behind, all I can say is, "I'm so sorry." Once the stories are checked out by the panel members, then I will quickly edit stories with the help of a couple people (thank you Melissa and Matt!), and then will charge down to the printers and figure out how much the thing is gonna cost. So far, it looks like each copy will be about $20 US. As soon as I have a good fix on the price I will have an advance ordering sale, including a discount, for a limited time. Why? So that I can get more money to print more copies, thus keeping the costs down as much as possible (and cause I'd also like to keep some of my money for Christmas). I am trying really hard to have the thing published before Christmas. However, considering the mail glut that happens every holiday season, I doubt that anyone will be getting their copies until after December. I just can't imagine it being any other way. It was supposed to be out in August and here it is November. My apologies to the authors, and you potential readers as well. PARTICIPATE IN A SURVEY And, more news! Thamiris is conducting an anonymous survey on fanfic likes and dislikes. It was designed to compile the opinions of people within the Herc-Xenaverse. Be sure to get your voice heard! You can find it at her site, or e-mail Thamiris with any questions.
NEWS: SELLING PRINTS Nancy Lorenz is selling autographed prints of her online comic, 'Blunder On.' And it's all for a good cause. Nancy is trying to raise money to help a friend get to Pasadena for the January Con. Isn't that nice? Either way, she's done some really nice, and very funny, pics. For a quick example, check this out, and this. Prices will be from 20 to 30 dollars depending on the size of the print, so get your orders in now. If you're interested, then just follow the link below.
